Let’s Understand Linchpin Book In More detail:

Introduction

You Are a Genius. Seth Godin says: “If a genius is someone with exceptional abilities and the insight to find the not so obvious solution to a problem, you don’t need to win a Nobel Prize to be one. A genius looks at something that others are stuck on and gets the world unstuck.”

Godin says that no one is genius all the time, even Einstein used to face an issue while returning to his home from his work every day. All are Geniuses sometimes. The Author says that the problem and the biggest tragedy is that the society (our school, our boss, our government, our family) keeps drumming the genius part out. The biggest problem is that our culture has been engaged in the Faustian bargain, we trade our geniuses and artistry for apparent stability.

The take care of you Bargain

How our parents sign us up for: The author says that our world is filled with factories. Factories that make widgets and insurance and websites. Factories that make movies and take care of sick people and answer telephones. These Factories needs workers. and if we learn to become one of these workers, if you pay attention at school, if you show up on time then we will take care of you. You don’t have to be brilliant or creative or to take a big risk.

we will pay a lot to you, we will give health insurance to you, we will cherish you or at least we will take care of you. It’s a pretty seductive bargain. So seductive that for a century, we embraced it. We set up our schools and our systems and our government to support the bargain.

But today due to a lot of competition and because of technology this bargain has fallen apart, Job growth is flat at best. Wages in many industries are in a negative cycle. but the author says that This situation presents a wonderful opportunity.
Yes, it’s an opportunity. An opportunity to actually enjoy what you do, to make a difference to your colleagues and your customers, and to unlock the genius you’ve been hiding all these years.

Where Does Average Come From? It comes from two places:

  1. You have been brainwashed by school and by the system into believing that your job is to do your job and follow instructions. It’s, not anymore.
  2. Everyone has a little voice inside of their head that’s angry and afraid. That voice is the resistance–your lizard brain–and it wants you to be average (and safe).
If you’re not doing as well as you hoped, perhaps it’s because the rules of the game were changed, and no one told you.

Developing Indispensability: “You weren’t born to be a cog in the giant industrial machine. You were trained to become a cog.”

The new world of work

We Are Surrounded by Bureaucrats, Note Takers, Literalists, Manual Readers, TGIF Labourers, Map Followers, and Fearful Employees. The problem is that the bureaucrats, note takers, literalists, manual readers, TGIF labourers, map followers, and fearful employees are in pain. They’re in pain because they’re overlooked, underpaid, laid off, and stressed out.

My Opinion: Earlier people lived by following rules instructions, they did what they have asked to do, but today world has changed rules have changed hence we have an opportunity to do what we like, we have an opportunity to bring our geniuses out. hence don’t miss the opportunity, use them wisely.
